The Red Hot Chilli Pipers are coming to Auckland for The Spirit of Bunnockburn! Bob invites you to join him at the 'Scottish event of the year'.

The Red Hot Chilli Pipers

Reserve your seat on the Celtic Connexions minibus, for only $30 per person - take the hassle out of driving in Auckland traffic and begin the event in good company, courtesy of Bob. If you haven't purchased your ticket, make sure you do so before the end of this month, while 'early bird' specials still apply. Bob has pre-booked a few tickets, which you can purchase from him, but be warned - first in first serve! Tickets cost $39 each. Please contact Bob to book your seat on the bus and/or ticket. For all other details about the Spirit of Bunnockburn, please see the link below.

Also, my apologies for my mistake in the last newsletter - I stated that the Spirit of Bunnockburn was in Hamilton, which is incorrect. We are, however, expecting the Chilli Pipers to visit Hamilton, but this has not been confirmed yet.

Silver and Gold ... and RED!

Posted 12 years, 8 months ago by Heidi Brown    0 comments

Hello friends,

I have titled this post 'silver and gold' for two reasons - first in honour of the extraordinary winter we are having. Silver for the icy blankets covering the morning grass, and for the snow flakes that have fallen upon parts of NZ that have never felt the touch of snow before (not in my lifetime anyway). Gold for warming up by the fire, glowing embers, and the welcomed touch of sunshine after days of grey rain.

Secondly, it is in honour of the new Claddagh ring Celtic Connexions has brought in from Ireland. The design combines the mesmerising shine of fine Sterling Silver, either with the exquisite warmth of Rose Gold, or the classic brightness of Yellow Gold. The band is solid at the front and back, joined with heart-shaped Celtic knots on either side, altogether making for an attractive ring with depth of meaning. Available in a range of sizes, in either silver/rose gold or silver/yellow gold.

The RED part of our title is in honour of the Red Hot Chilli Pipers, who will be performing in Hamilton this September, at the Scottish event of the year: The Spirit of Bannockburn. 'a night of Scottish revelry' held at Vector Arena on Friday 30th September.

This promises to be a memorable event for those who love all things Scottish. Dress up in your kilt, and get ready for awesome live music by the Red Hot Chilli Pipers, wicked stand-up comedy by Des McLean, tributes to Scottish history on the big screen, and much more. Bring some extra money and enjoy a meal of haggis, neeps and tatties!

Please follow this link for more information.

TICKETS GO ON SALE TODAY. If you buy before 31 August, tickets are $39 instead of $49.

McCullum Bagpipes

Celtic Connexions is proud to work with McCullum Bagpipes to bring you top-quality pipes, chanters and reeds, all made in Scotland. If there is something you want from McCullum Bagpipes that is not advertised on our website, please talk to Bob, he can order anything. Phone 0800 Haggis to talk to Bob, and discuss prices.

Little more than a decade ago McCullum Bagpipes was a two person business working out of a small shed. Now they employ 30+ staff, most of whom are skilled pipers. Every step of production takes place within the McCullum workship, and only the highest standard of workmanship is accepted.

Please follow our link for more information, or phone Bob on 0800 HAGGIS.

Whistling in the Dragons' Den

Posted 12 years, 8 months ago by Heidi Brown    0 comments

Hello friends,

Celtic Connexions' sister website, www.dragonsden.co.nz will be launched next week! The Dragons' Den was created especially for all our friends who love mythical creatures, and who were sad to hear that we would no longer be stocking said creatures. Well, Bob has listened to you, and after the shop has closed you will still be able to purchase fairies, dragons, Anne Stokes and Nemesis Now from the Dragons Den website.

New Whistles

We have brought in a new shipment of Celtic Whistles. Included in this range are the Generation Brass-D tin whistles, $15 each. They are easy to use, great for musicians of all ages and levels, and you can find free lessons on youtube.

As of today Celtic Connexions Facebook has 333 fans! Thank you all for your support, and congratulations to those of you who won Claddagh rings this month. With your help, we would love to get up to 500 fans during August. Once we reach 500 fans, you will all go in the draw to win your choice of two prizes by Saint Justin Pewter: one of our most popular jewellery sets, or one of our celtic knot belt buckles.

Check out Facebook for more info...

All the best from us,

Red Hot Chilli Pipers CDs and DVD in stock!

Red Hot Chilli Pipers

Bagrock To The Masses

Music For The Kilted Generation

BLAST live

also BLAST live, the DVD

The first time Bob mentioned this band, I thought he was talking about the 'Chilli Peppers', and I wondered why he seemed surprised when I said that of course I had heard of them! Well, as I have since discovered, the Red Hot Chilli Pipers are an exceptional act in their own right.

The Red Hot Chilli Pipers formed in 2004. They have since released four albums, (you can order them through Celtic Connexions), and have performed in concerts and music festivals all over the world.

The Chilli Pipers are renowned for their powerful sound and highly energetic stage presence. They take old favourites, like We Will Rock You, Hey Jude and Smoke on the Water and add a burst of Celtic flavour - think bagpipers, drummers, guitarists, and keyboardists, all highly talented musicians, joining to create one sound. No wonder they are said to be inspiring, and full of passion. Some other songs include: Flower of Scotland, The Hills of Argyll, Amazing Grace, Highland Cathedral, The Antrim Rose, and much more.

There is talk of a New Zealand tour later this year. We will keep you posted as the details become available.

For now you can enjoy their amazing CDs!

Bye for now,

Heidi Brown
